Eligibility

The Contest is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents or temporary residents (except Quebec) between the ages of 16 to 30, as of the Contest closing date. (:Entrants;) Across U-hub shall have the right at any time to require proof of identity and/or eligibility to participate in the Contest. Failure to provide such proof may result in disqualification. All personal and other information requested by and supplied to Across U-hub for the purpose of the Contest must be truthful, complete, accurate and in no way misleading. Across U-hub reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant should such an entrant at any stage supply untruthful, incomplete, inaccurate or misleading personal details and/or information.

Rules of Living Alive Short Film Contest

Following the Living Alive Slogan Contest and T-Shirt Contest, Across U-hub is rolling out the Living Alive Short Film Contest (:Contest;). Films and videos have always been a very popular media for expressions. As the accessibility to create videos become more and more available in recent years, it has become very popular among youths. Tell us their story of Living Alive through a short film in this contest.

Short Film Submission Guidelines

  • The short film must incorporate the message of either one of the slogans of Living Alive, or the general theme Living Alive.
  • The time length of the short film must be within the duration of a minimum of 1minute 30 seconds to a maximum of 7 minutes, including front and back credits.
  • Short film or video entry must be provided on DVD (NTSC).
  • DVD must be labeled clearly with the entrant's full name and the title of the film.
  • Completion date of the film cannot be earlier than January 1, 2010
  • If the short film is not produced in English speaking dialogues, it must include English subtitles.
  • Each entry must include a brief English synopsis of no more than 250 words of the film.
  • You agree that you will not submit an entry previously submitted to other contests or content that has previously been published online or elsewhere.

How to Enter

  • Submit your DVD by mail or in person along with the entry form downloaded from the Living Alive website (www.livingalive.ca) to

  • All entries must be received by October 31, 2010.
  • Across U-hub is not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, or misappropriated entries.
  • All submissions become the properties of Across U-hub and will not be returned

Maximum Number of Entries

A maximum of one (1) entry per person during the entire Contest period may be submitted.

Winner Selection

Four awards will be selected: Winner and Audience Choice. Short films will be solely judged by the Across U-hub・s judging panel for the contest. Short films will be judged on their technique, overall impact, originality, and relevance to the theme of Living Alive. The selected winners will be contacted by telephone and/or email. All prizes will be awarded to the first name as it appears on the entry form, and division of prizes among co-directors is the responsibility of the winners.

By submitting a short film to Across U-hub you agree to the following terms and conditions: All entries, once submitted, become the property of the Across U-hub, may be used by Across U-hub in any media, for any purpose, and in perpetuity. You agree to grant Across U-hub a royalty-free, irrevocable, and non-exclusive license to publish and otherwise use the material in any way we want, and in any media worldwide; you warrant that you・re submitting content that you・ve created yourself or that you have all rights to transmit and license and which do not violate trademark, copyright, privacy or any other rights of any other person or entity. It・s important to note, however, that you still own the copyright to everything you contribute to Across U-hub.

Conduct

By entering the Contest, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Official Rules, which will also be posted on the Website. Failure to comply with these Rules may result in disqualification from the Contest. You further agree to comply with and be bound by the decisions of the judges, which are final and binding in all respects. Across U-hub reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Entrant it finds to be: (1) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest; (2) violating the Official Rules; or (3) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Any false information provided within the context of the Contest by any Entrant concerning identity, ownership of right or non-compliance with the Rules may result in the immediate elimination of an Entrant from the Contest. Across U-hub further reserves the right to disqualify any entry that it believes in its sole and unfettered discretion infringes upon any law or otherwise does not comply with these Rules. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY PROPERTY OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, ACROSS U-HUB RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Media Activity

By participating in this Contest, you agree and hereby grant Across U-hub permission to use, copy, modify and make available your submissions to the public (with or without attribution to you) for any purpose, such as, but not limited to, press and media communications, without further compensation to you. You also agree to participate in any media or promotional activity regarding the Contest. If you are a winner, you agree that Across U-hub may use your name and likeness to administer and promote the Contest and to conduct media interviews and promotional events. If you become a finalist, you may contacted to provide a close-up photo of the director and 1-2 production photos from your film which will be displayed with your film title on our site and on all press materials and releases.

Intellectual Property

By registering for the contest and/or submitting an entry you agree explicitly that all components of your submission and supporting statement are indeed original creations. Any intellectual property infringement, misuse or plagiarism of another person's work in any form or state will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of eligibility to receive all awards, recognition and prizes. You also agree to allow Across U-hub to make public statements regarding any disqualifications and any grounds for disqualification. Entrants agree that they have obtained all required permissions regarding music, sound and/or images presented in the submitted short film. By entering the competition, the entrant agrees that the Living Alive Short Film Competition will not be held liable for any copyright infringements perpetrated by you or your short film. The Living Alive Short Film Competition reserves the right to not screen any film(s) for any reason it deems valid. Winner will be required to sign an affidavit confirming that their short film is original and he/she holds all rights. Failure to sign and return the form within the required time period (15 days) or provision of false information may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. Affidavits of winners under 18 years of age at time of award must be countersigned by parent or legal guardian. Affidavits are subject to verification by the Living Alive Short Film Competition and its agents. You agree to hold us harmless from any visitor to this site making any unauthorized use of your short film entries.

Internet

Across U-hub is not responsible for electronic transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission. Across U-hub is not responsible for theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of Contest materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions or limitations of any kind. Across U-hub is not responsible for inaccurate transmissions of or failure to display Contest materials on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or any combination thereof. If for any reason the Internet portion of the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Across U-hub reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.

Privacy

Across U-hub respects your right to privacy. Unless otherwise indicated, any information provided will only be used to assess the entries and execute the contest. By providing personally identifiable information, you consent to the collection of this information by the Sponsor for the purpose of administering this contest. Except where required by law, Across U-hub does not disclose entrant information to third parties.

Contest Opening/Closing

Short film submissions will be accepted between June 1, 2010 and October 31, 2010.
